Here we are up to volume 17 of the continuing series of classical Sherlock Holmes pastiches, and once again it is a fine contribution. David Marcum is to be congratulated and thanked for his work. He continues to discover new writers, and the stories continue to be faithful to the original canon whilst being individual takes by each author on the characters and circumstances.I am especially delighted about the fidelity to the classic characters, as it is something difficult to pull off successfully - attempts to do this can fail by either being too stiff and cardboard (Holmes and Watson as stock Victorian characters with the faulty assumptions we moderns have about what the Victorians were 'really' like) or can wander off on tangents where the characters may be called Holmes and Watson but tare in fact the writer's own original creations and behave accordingly.I can recommend this to anyone who wants to know more of those teasing references Watson drops to unrecorded cases, to those who want to follow the chronological development of Holmes' career, and to those who love Arthur Conan Doyle's creation in whatever incarnation.

These anthologies have been published for several years and are a must for fans of anything Holmes. This volume, which is #17 -includes not only short stories but essays, a radio play script and a poem. The theme of the stories is that the problem has to seem supernatural.My personal favorites were The Adventure of the Returning Spirit, The Return of the Noble Bachelor and The Reappearance of Mr. James Phillimore, but they all kept me entertained. Won't be the last of this series I order.

I have all 23 books in this series and, for the most part, have enjoyed them greatly. This version, however was so full of ghosts, zombies, poltergeist and spooks so as to be way beyond the scope of the Sherlock Holmes style.Creativity is to be applauded but this volume challenges believability and is one that I could easily do without

Like Holmes! Then just plan to buy these when they come out. Wonderfully curated. True to the canon. At this point have all of them, and will end up with as many as he edits and produces.

The MX series are always very entertaining.
