Bible of Model Rocketry AREA 51 by David J Petry Review

I am a model rocket fan and consider myself an avid practioner. I purchased an Amazon Fire tablet and discovered David's book in the Kindle section almost like a downed rocket downrange. The title and cover picture snagged me. Once I started reading David continued to pull me in with his narrative style and personal history of the numerous (and I mean many) model rockets he has designed, built, and flown.I especially liked the numerous photoographs and detailed descriptions. A lot of very great ideas turned into rockets. I especially like his description of the original rejection letter to Model Rocketry magazine. Bible of Model Rocketry should appeal to all ages including younger adults, but I believe it wiil appeal to a lot to adults that built model rockets as kids.

This book demonstrates a more relaxed approach to building and flying model rockets. Some books take it a little to seriously and inhibit experimentation, designing and having fun. The author has a lot of good ideas, I would have enjoyed a few more technical drawings. This book would “light the candle “ and fire up some enthusiasm for a design-builder. All in all, a good read.

It's easy to misunderstand the title of this book as meaning that it is the go-to guide. The author didn't mean it that way, but he really should have chosen a title like "Musings of a Model Rocketeer". The book reads like a blog for the most part, and the author has an eclectic style. However, there are some good ideas and thoughts on rockets long gone.This is just a book for fun reading. I do agree with the other reviewer that the Model Rocket Handbook is the real "bible" of this hobby, but couldn't find the safety infractions he spoke of. Although I'm glad I got the book (considering most magazines cost $6-9 nowadays), I'm ambivalent if should or shouldn't get it.

Great manual for model rocketry and written in an easy to read formant.

I was looking for more meat and potatoes. What about the big boys that build very large rockets and fuel them without lining Estes pockets.
