I found this to be a very readable description of Hawking's work, including his important predecessors. However, as the book progressed, the authors' agenda begins to emerge - becoming all too apparent in the last two chapters. Simply put, this book is a Christian hit job on Hawking when he's no longer here to defend himself. Many of the "conclusions" drawn in the closing chapters took the form of "Hawking said this, but that probably means he meant that". By the end, I felt like I had been taken for a ride - drawn in by the well-written account of the physics, only to be set up for pre-determined conclusions as it moved to philosophy. I should have checked on the authors' background. - J Wadle, Boulder CO

First 5 chapters a joy, well written, well thought out, fabulous insights , complex science made accessible to lay readers, then slowly sneaks Yaweh in, chapters 6 & 7 some vague musing , last chapter - 8 goes our with a big whimper rather than a Big Bang.Ends woefully with quoting one author (Page) saying tada I think Jesus yada yada.Same book could have been written with “I seen whatever god here “ & the science

I read this over the course of a day. I loved the way history was woven into the thesis. It is very good and very respectful of Stephen Hawking. Don't forget to read the two indexes. I must have posted ten excerpts from this book on my Twitter feed.I knew a lot of the early stuff on QM. Some of the QR stuff was new. It was all clear and easy to understand. It is very high level but informative. I loved the book. Buy it!

If you know nothing about Stephen Hawking or multiverses or physics to get something from this book. The authors do a wonderful job of weaving narratives and stories throughout the book that help prepare you for the physics they both so adroitly describe throughout (there’s no math to worry about!). You will certainly learn something from it.And you can read it in a day!The book reads like a story. The writing style draws you in and you sense at times you’re hanging out with Dave and David after dinner having a delightful chat about God, the universe, science, and the remarkable life and ideas of the late Dr. Stephen Hawking. This is how good science writing is done. If you’re not a believer, this book will give you insights into how two thinking Christians see science and faith in the 21st century. You might not agree with them, but this is one of the best books out there that dispel the notion that science and the Christian faith are incompatible.In March 14 of 2018 Dr. Hawking passed away at the age of 76. It is “Pi” day as well as the birthday of Albert Einstein. We lost a monumental scientific mind who helped shape the way our culture understands the universe. I was part of an event that same March that featured a scientist from the Hubble Space Telescope. At dinner, we toasted Mr. Hawking and his achievements, respecting him as a fellow human being who, like us, wanted to know what the universe is all about.This book, in my estimation, is very respectful of Dr. Hawking and his legacy. Compassionately so. They do a great job of elucidating some of Dr. Hawking’s most difficult theories and there is absolutely no antagonism leveled against him for his beliefs about God. In fact, the authors point out how another Christian cosmologist, Dr. Don Page, who worked closely with Stephen Hawking for years, was a staunch defender of Hawking’s scientific ideas. Page could embrace Hawking’s science, though he and Hawking obviously disagreed about the nature of God.Dave and David point out that Hawking mentions “God” in his writing frequently. They are very circumspect when discussing this aspect of Hawking’s though, arguing that Hawking, in his writing, never addresses the specific claims of Jesus or the New Testament. They argue that Hawking’s idea of “God” is rather more like Deism. They believe, and provide good evidentiary support that God, in Hawking’s writing, is merely the “Creator” who sets everything up and leaves it alone, not the God of Abraham, Isaac, & Jacob.Certainly if you’re a secular scientist, you might be put off by the unapologetic Christianity both authors clearly articulate, but it simply false to think that the authors are taking pot shots at the late Dr. Hawking now that he’s not around to defend himself. They’re not claiming that Hawking really believed in God, they’re not purporting he had a death-bed conversion, nor are they misrepresenting Hawking’s beliefs. They are trying to be as lucid and true as they can to Dr. Hawking’s thoughts about the universe and God that appear in his writing.So much so, that I will go on record here and say that if Dr. Hawking were able to read this, I think he would certainly agree with how they represented his position, though I am not saying Dr. Hawking would agree with the authors’ Christian faith.This is a delightful read, as was my 90-minute chat with the authors themselves. A brilliant little book. If you are interested but unfamiliar with the dialogue between science and Christianity or unfamiliar with Hawking himself, or if you are familiar with Hawking and the faith/science discussion, this book is a gem. I highly recommend it!

Loved it! A brief but meaty overview of the history of physics and cosmology. A lot of complex science made easier to wrap your head around by two smart guys. Science, God, Newton, Einstein, Black Holes and Hawking - all the good stuff. Get the book.
