Behind Distant Stars (The Chronicles of Fid Book 2) by David Reiss Review

Fid for the win. Just remember to call him by his proper title.I must say that I completely love the series and hope that the author can continue bringing us the life and times of my favorite villain for years to come. Here we see the continuing process of Fid's quest for normalization from his villainous career.I found the authors ability to weave multiple threads together allowing the three or four plot lines to be seamlessly integrated into a great second story. The easy switch and reinforcement that allows for such a great story twice in a row showcases the authors great talent. The genre takes complete advantage of the authors talent in this area making me as a reader easily able to jump into the pace and timeline of the novel for a fun and compelling tale.I am excited seeing that the next novel seems to break away from the Markum identity and we might see more of the universe and world that has appeared from the super-powered world that has been created. I think that similar to Dr. Doom; Dr. Fid would make a decent dictator and I can't believe some of the world doesn't have super dictators he might need to clash with in his new quest.Pick this book up if your a fan of super genre and in particular the D-list series by Jim Bernheimer.

Doctor Fid continues to be a thoughtfully written version of Doctor Doom, wrapped up in a wholly original universe. Can he be a hero? How will he contend with a sorcerous rival? These and more questions will be answered by the end of the story.This is not a second book in a trilogy; both this and the previous book have a solid conclusion. No need to fear only getting half a story!

More adventures of Doctor Fid! Another delightful, energetic, and engaging supervillain novel. Doctor Fid has his reasons for being a supervillain, and they chew on him extensively. We get to see the well-intentioned reasons that other villains embark on their own journeys into evil.I am particularly pleased that the sequel has a *smaller* scope than the world-saving of the first book. While there are brutal fights, they're for more personal stakes than the fate of the world, giving this book a tight focus on Doctor Fid's own inner life and struggles.

This had been sitting on my "to read" list for a while, along with its predecessor. Man, it's great to pull something from the library and get an engaging and really entertaining read. The world presented is both interesting and funny - the heroes and villains are such great caricatures on the surface, but each one has depths that sneak into view at just the right moment. Everything - the plotting, setting, and consistency feels tight. I've said it before, I'll say it again - More Fid Please!

Glad I discovered this series only after three books were written and I could immediately continue the saga of Dr. Fid. This one was even better than the first, and I’m going to dive right into the third one. To say that Fid is a badass is an understatement, but he is also more than a superior intellect and self-interested villain. If you liked The Dr. DIRE series, this is even better.
