But the Gatekeeper seems to be more powerful than Ash’s own moniker: Heat. With the Gatekeeper’s apprentice, Black Magnet, terrorizing the city, Heat will have to fight his way to uncover answers about his past.However, those answers won’t set him free.

Black Magnet (Heat Superhero Book 1) by David Neth Review

I really enjoy superhero stories, especially when I need a fun read to take a break from the events of the day. Black Magnet provides an introduction to Ash/Heat as well as Black Magnet and the Gatekeeper. Along with being an excellent action story, the interactions between all the characters provide a very good introduction to who Ash/Heat is as well as they begin to reconstruct his past. I’m looking forward to experiencing the next two episodes in this series. Nicholas Dunker’s narration really brings this story to life, his voices for each character are great.

Theres a germ of a story here, but it needs an editor and a few rewrites to get it in shape. Lacking in suspense, unevenly paced, the book lurched to an ending without really telling any sort of a coherent story. I give it an extra star for being an inoffensive YA yarn without any explicit scenes or misogynistic scenes.

David Neth plays with the amnesia aspect of the main character well, keeping the reader guessing as to how things connect. The dialogue was very realistic and really helped build the relationships of the main cast. The superheroics were fun to read. I'm looking forward to seeing where the series goes from here.

Good first book characters lacking a little in the 3D department, hopefully will get more fleshed out as the series progresses , will move on to next book with high hopes!

I love superhero books and this one is the start of what could be a good series. I love the ideas in the book, the storyline is great. Just a little more building of the characters is called for. It is still worth the read, especially to keep up with what promises to be a great series.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
