The MX Book of New Sherlock Holmes Stories Part V: Christmas Adventures by David Marcum Review

It is a good book. I liked some of the stories, some not so good but this is expected in a large series of stories such as present in this book. I am fond of everything SH, so I am easy to please and I do enjoy the companionship he has with Watson. It is an interesting pair to say the least. I think SH came at a time that police procedure was poor to none and there was a need to discover methods to catch and to determine criminality. In the times we live, this is still true. The untruth we see in the media reminds us how easy it is to condemn someone and to try to make some one a criminal when there is no crime, nor any issue other than the inability of the media to compromise and then wanting to report a story they want to believe rather than reporting on the truth of what is happening. Same as in the time of Sherlock. Interesting and elementary, my friends.Joe

If I had not read others in this series, I would be more scathing. All I can say is that if you buy this you will be disappointed but that the collections get a lot better. These are really bad examples of Holmes and Watson, several of which were so bad (Mr. Boz and the one with Mrs Beeton; I'm thinking of you!!) that I almost returned the volume out of disgust. There were one or two that redeem somewhat but overall, not a great selection.

The book was excellent. It had stories by different authors and all had a twist to the ending. David Marcum, the editor, did a great job. The stories followed the style of Arthur Conan Doyle.

Holmes and Watson live on during the Christmas season in this volume of excellent stories that are true to the Doyle canon.I highly recommend all of the books in the MX series!

I absolutely love these books. I have purchased every one and I am sure I will purchase more as they come out. These groups of writers hold so well to the masters writing.
