My niece and I have long awaited this fourth book in the Dalai Lama's Cat series. Could this delightful story and the words of wisdom to live a better life be extended with the same light-hearted balance of humor and poignancy? The answer, dear reader, is an empathic "Yes!"Much like the life's journey of a person transitioning from learning to giving back, the Dalai Lama's cat does more than discover and ruminate on the principles of Buddhism. In Book 4, she enacts them in thoughtful and proactive ways. His Holiness's Cat (HHC), aka The Most Beautiful Creature Who Ever Lived, gains another title, Therapy Cat. Without giving away any spoilers, I will advise you to have a Kleenex or two handy. This book deeply explores the experience of true compassion and the connectedness of us all.I have given away many copies of the books in this series to friends and acquaintances. And I consider myself a dog lover! In the Dalai Lama's Cat and the Four Paws of Spiritual Success, the author creates wonderful vignettes to portray the four laws of Buddhism. To me, Buddhism is a way of thinking and living, not a religion. The stories and principles in this book apply broadly to anyone seeking a more meaningful life.I highly recommend this book, even to readers who may not have read the first three books (yet!). I reread them on a regular basis whenever I need a dose of positivity.

I am again amazed at how brilliantly Mr. Michie integrates Buddhist teachings into his novel from the point of view of that very special being, the Dalai Lama's cat (of many names). Although I'm not a Buddhist (probably because I feel the immediate need to kill any mosquito I can get my hands on...sigh), the Dalai Lama's cat has taught me more about Buddhist concepts than any actual Buddhist textbooks probably could. With his wonderful details about the town and monastery where the Dalai Lama lives and the life adventures of this charming Himalayan cat, Mr. Michie has produced a delightful new chapter in this series.

I am totally in love yet again! This time Rinpoche aka HHC and his friends tackle some fairly tough concepts with grace, humor and great charm. The subject matter of shame and guilt, so common in Western culture, is deftly disarmed, becoming toothless and clawless. Thomas Merton, a modern contemplative monk, was one of the Catholic Churches greatest thinkers on this subject matter but the Dali Lama's Cat goes him one better! HHC is very entertaining! Merton actually met the Dali Lama and many suspect he was more than a little interested in Buddhism after spending some time in India. For me there is a harmony and connection between two seemingly very different ways of thinking and leaving shame and "sin" behind is hard, but not here. There is something for everyone in these books and all of it is useful and comforting. Greatly hoping for more from the World's Most Beautiful Creature!

This is the 4th book in the series and I like it best, although I was inspired by the very first one I read, which happened to be book 2. If you are seeking to understand the wisdom of the ages or just like to hear about it from the perspective of the Dalia Lama's cat, you'll find this book takes you on a journey of awareness. Complex principles of Buddhist philosophy are explained through every day events in Dharamshala by the engaging characters. I hope everyone reads this book and takes the lessons to heart.
