Book 1 Chapter 4.
What Does John 17:1-3 TRULY Mean?
The main purpose of this book is to teach my readers HOW they themselves can make the Bible SIMPLE to UNDERSTAND!
In chapters 1 through 3, I covered or pointed out, thus far, 41 TOOLS to have in your mind WHILE you read and STUDY the Bible.
There are 37 more tools to correctly understand the Scriptures that I cover in the study 37 FACTS to Ponder About Jesus Being God!
Plus, I will point out even more tools to keep in mind in this chapter, as well as in all of the chapters of this book.
In other words, these TOOLS will help you understand the CORE FACT, when a Christian has the WRONG VIEW of God in their mind as they are reading the Bible.
Then they will read INTO the Scriptures their OWN personal “interpretation” of HOW they VIEW God and His Son Jesus.
To say this another way, some Christians have the VIEW or the UNDERSTANDING of Jesus as being Almighty God Himself in the flesh.
Thus, they “interpret” John 17:1-3 DIFFERENTLY than Biblical Unitarians “interpret” John 17:1-3 in the LIGHT of the WHOLE word of Almighty God.
So, how does a Christian know for sure WHICH interpretation is the correct God INTENDED meaning of John 17:1-3?
Let me explain what I mean by this. Christians who believe in the doctrine of the Trinity VIEW or UNDERSTAND the Son of God as being Almighty God HIMSELF simply because the Father calls the Son “O God” in Hebrews 1:8.
Hebrews 1:8.
“But unto the Son He said, Your throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a scepter of righteousness is the scepter of your kingdom.”
Trinitarian Christians then quote Isaiah 44:6-8 and explain that it means there is only ONE God and NO OTHER God besides Yahweh.
I will emphasize the words that Trintarians emphasize when they read and “interpret” what this passage of Scripture means to them.
Isaiah 44:6-8.
“Thus said the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God.
Isaiah 44:7. And who, as I, shall call, and shall declare it, and set it in order for me, since I appointed the ancient people? and the things that are coming, and shall come, let them shew unto them.
Isaiah 44:8. Fear you not, neither be afraid: have not I told you from that time, and have declared it? You are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? Yea, there is no God; I know not any.”
Now, since I was taught the doctrine of the Trinity from the time I was a small child being raised in the Roman Catholic Church, I blindly accepted the King James Version or “translation” of this passage of Scripture.
In other words, I did not QUESTION what I was being taught in the Assemblies of God church concerning the doctrine of the Trinity until AFTER the Holy Spirit began showing me how other verses of Scripture do NOT AGREE with the doctrine of the Trinity.
The Holy Spirit also showed me how other verses of Scripture do NOT AGREE with the WAY in which Isaiah 44:6-8 is TRANSLATED in the King James Version of the Bible.
We will come back to this passage of Scripture shortly. But first, let me show you what I mean in simplicity without debating the meanings of the Greek and Hebrew words.
Please read 2 Corinthians 4:1-6 where we learn that Satan is ALSO called “theos”.
The Greek word “theos” means God, as in, the supreme Creator God Yahweh.
But, the Greek word “theos” ALSO means “a god”, as in a god under and subject to Yahweh, the Creator.
And Lucifer was once a GOOD god whom Yahweh SET to become a god during the PREVIOUS AGE of the earth. according to Ezekiel 28:12-19 and Isaiah 14:12-19.
Yet, Satan is called THE god WITH the definite article “the” god in 2 Corinthians 4:3,4.
Let us go ahead and read those verses in CONTEXT so that you can see verse 4 is indeed Satan.
2 Corinthians 4:1-6.
“Therefore seeing we have this ministry, as we have received mercy, we faint not;
2 Corinthians 4:2. But have renounced the hidden things of dishonesty, not walking in craftiness, nor handling the word of God DECEITFULLY; but by manifestation of the TRUTH commending ourselves to every man's conscience in the sight of God.
2 Corinthians 4:3. But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: (The English word “translated” as “lost” is a compound Greek word “apollumenois”.
Apo means because of and the other Greek word means destroy, which can be translated as destroyer.
Thus, to me, a better translation of this last phrase is, it is hidden to them BECAUSE of the DESTROYER.
Also, understand that we were ALL LOST before the LIGHT SHINED unto us to bring us out of the DARKNESS and into the LIGHT)
2 Corinthians 4:4. In whom THE god of this world has blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest (Or for FEAR that) the LIGHT of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the IMAGE of God, should SHINE unto them.
2 Corinthians 4:5. For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake. (Notice that I highlighted Christ and Lord in BLUE and Jesus in YELLOW. I did this to emphasize that it was the Son of MAN, Jesus, whom God MADE both Lord and Christ AFTER the cross and resurrection, according to Acts 2:36)
2 Corinthians 4:6. For God, who commanded the LIGHT to SHINE out of darkness, has SHINED in our hearts, to give the LIGHT of the knowledge of the GLORY of God in the face (Or in the COUNTENANCE) of Jesus Christ.”
Jesus was not GLORIFIED until AFTER the cross and resurrection, according to John 7:39.
Thus, the GLORY as of the only BEGOTTEN Son which the Apostles of Jesus BEHELD in John 1:14 was AFTER the Son of MAN, Jesus was BEGOTTEN from the DEAD.
Now, 2 Corinthians 4, verse 6, the word “God” is CLEARLY referring to Almighty God Himself who COMMANDED the light to SHINE.
Therefore, THE god in verse 4, who BLINDS the MINDS of people for FEAR that they will BELIEVE the gospel, is CLEARLY Satan, the rebellious LYING god, deceiving this present world.
Satan is called the DESTROYER, the king of the angels of the bottomless pit, in Revelation 9:11 by the Hebrew name Abbadon and by the Greek name Apollyon, which both mean the destroying angel
The point that I am making is that not one single Christian tries to prove that Satan MUST be Almighty God Himself simply because Satan is CALLED THE God and Isaiah 44:8 says, Is there a God beside me? Yea, there is no God; I know not any.
Yet, some Christians dogmatically DEMAND that Jesus MUST be Almighty God Himself because Jesus is CALLED God AND Isaiah 44:8 clearly says, “Is there a God beside me? Yea, there is no God; I know not any.”
Here is tool number 42.
TOOL #42.
Always know and understand that you are reading a TRANSLATION of the Bible!
Know and understand that not all translations AGREE with each other.
And please understand that ANY Bible can be BIASED toward a preconceived VIEW of God which the translators believe.

With that in mind, let us take a closer look at Isaiah 44:6-8 BEFORE we delve into John 17:1-3.
The Hebrew word “translated” as BESIDE in the phrase, “and BESIDE me there is NO God” is also a COMPOUND word made up of two Hebrew words.
Here is how the concordance in E-Sword defines the first Hebrew word “min” Strong’s number H4480.
H4480
מִנֵּי מִנִּי מִן
min minnı̂y minnêy
min, min-nee', min-nay'
For H4482; properly a part of; hence (prepositionally), from or out of in many senses: - above, after, among, at, because of, by (reason of), from (among), in, X neither, X nor, (out) of, over, since, X then, through, X whether, with.
Total KJV occurrences: 7524.
And here is how the concordance in E-Sword defines the first Hebrew word “bil‛ădêy” Strong’s number H1107.
H1107
בַּלְעֲדֵי בִּלְעֲדֵי
bil‛ădêy bal‛ădêy
bil-ad-ay', bal-ad-ay'
Constructive plural from H1077 and H5703; not till, that is, (as preposition or adverb) except, WITHOUT, besides: - beside, not (in), save, without.
Total KJV occurrences: 17.
Let us now read Isaiah 44:6-8 using the more CORRECT translation that AGREES with Lucifer being SET on a THRONE by his God and Creator Yahweh.
Isaiah 44:6-8.
“Thus said the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and SINCE WITHOUT me there is no God. (Or SINCE there is NO God WITHOUT me making them BECOME a god)
Isaiah 44:7. And WHO, as I, shall CALL, and shall DECLARE it, and set it in order FOR me, SINCE (H4490 the same Hebrew word “min” in verse 6 that was NOT translated in the KJV) I APPOINTED the ANCIENT people? (Speaking of the Elohim that God SET on thrones during the previous age of the earth and one third of those gods rebelled and waged a WAR against the other gods who remained faithful to their Creator) And the things that are coming, and shall come, let them (The good Elohim translated as angels in Psalm 8:5) show unto them.(The fallen gods, Satan, the Devil, and his angels)
Isaiah 44:8. Fear you not, neither be afraid: have not I told you from THAT time, (From THAT time when you good angels TRIUMPHED over the fallen gods and sang of joy, according to the more correct translation of Job 38:4-7) and have declared it? You are even my witnesses. Is there a God WITHOUT by reason of me? Yea, there is no gods; (WITHOUT me setting them to become gods) I know not any.”
CLEARLY, Satan is a god! However, he would not be a god WITHOUT Yahweh setting or ANOINTING the Cherub in Ezekiel 28:14,15 referring to as Lucifer, the shining one, in Isaiah 14:12,13, to become an Elohim to rule on a THRONE FOR Yahweh over different parts of His vast kingdom of the universe.
So then, the Bible ITSELF clearly teaches us that there are MANY gods, and MANY Lords.
However, WE do NOT worship the angels who DECEIVED the world to worship them and be made in their own image or character.
Thus, tool number 43 is understanding that TWO Elohim are being COMPARED to each other, the TRUTHFUL God clearly identified as being the FATHER in John 17:1-3.
And the LYING god clearly identified as being Satan in John 8:44.
John 8:44.
“You are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father you will do. He was a murderer from (Before) the beginning, (Speaking of the beginning of this PRESENT AGE of the earth) and abode not (Or he REMAINED NOT or he continued not) in the TRUTH, because (Or in that) there is no truth in him. When he speaks (Or when Lucifer speaks now he speaks) a LIE, he speaks of his own: for he is a LIAR, and the father of it.”
The word “father” also carries the meaning of founder or the FIRST creation of God to LIE.
TOOL #43.
The ONLY TRUTHFUL God versus the LYING god.
Choose you this day WHOM you will serve!
This is a CENTRAL theme of the WHOLE Bible. And once you see and understand this TRUTH, the Bible will be made SIMPLE to UNDERSTAND!
Let us now take a closer look at John 17:1-3.
John 17:1-3,22-24.
“These words spoke Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; GLORIFY Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You:
John 17:2. As You have GIVEN him power over all flesh, (Or You Almighty God have GIVEN Your promise to me, the Son of MAN, Your human Son Jesus, to be RECEIVING all AUTHORITY and the PRIVILEGE) THAT he should give eternal life to as many as You have GIVEN him. (Here we, Almighty God the Father GAVE His human Son a JOY set before him to endure the cross, according to Hebrews 12:2.
And that JOY was being GIVEN glory, honor, and RECEIVING POWER, the power or the delegated jurisdiction to give eternal life to whomsoever the Son of God judges worthy to receive eternal life in the world to come, according to John 5:26-28)
John 17:3. And THIS is life eternal, THAT they might KNOW YOU the ONLY TRUTHFUL God, (In other words, Jesus came to SHOW us the Father.
That is to say, to give us UNDERSTANDING that the FATHER is the ONLY TRUTHFUL God and that Satan is the LYING god) AND Jesus Christ, (Or, AND that they might ALSO KNOW Jesus ANOINTED) whom You have SENT…(Or whom Almighty God commissioned and GAVE all power and authority to be MADE both Lord and Christ to REPLACE the LYING god with Your NEW creation of a RIGHTEOUS truthful God, who will never rebel against You, according to Acts 2:36 and many other passages of Scripture)
…John 17:22. And the glory which You GAVE me I have GIVEN THEM; that THEY may be ONE, EVEN AS we are ONE:
John 17:23. I in them, and You in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that You have SENT me, (Again, the Greek word “sent” here means COMMISSIONED, which means to GIVE power and authority to someone in order to accomplish the task they are given to do) and have loved them, as You have loved me.
John 17:24. Father, I will that they also, whom You have given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which You have GIVEN me: for (Or BECAUSE) You loved me before the foundation of the WORLD.”

But for now, please notice that the SAME GLORY that the God of Jesus GAVE to His HUMAN Son, Jesus, is promised to be given to we who believe.
We are JOINT-HEIRS with Jesus, according to Romans 8:17-19.

And after you understand that the REASON that Yahweh did that is to STILL His ENEMIES, Satan and the fallen angels.
Then you can understand that God made His human Son to become “a” Lord, “a” King, and “a” God, under and subject to his God and Father in order to JUDGE Satan and the fallen angels.
