Quants de nosaltres no hem anat a banyar-nos en una cala i ens hem dedicat a esquivar les algues que hi suraven? Segurament, tots ho hem acabat fent alguna vegada ja sigui perquè ens feien fàstic, perquè ens molestaven, ens feien angúnia... No som conscients de com la seva presència enriqueix les nostres platges. Sempre han estat unes grans incompreses!

Aquest treball es centra en l’estudi de la composició i l’abundància de la comunitat macroalgal de Cala Margarida, situada al poble de Palamós. En ell, s’ha avaluat la seva distribució en funció del gradient terra-mar i de determinats factors ambientals: l’exposició a les onades i el fotoperíode. A més, s’ha valorat com afecten l’existència d’una escala artificial i d’un trampolí a la comunitat.

Els resultats obtinguts fan evident, d’una banda, la gran biodiversitat present en aquesta cala i, d’altra banda, la importància ecològica d’aquests organismes en els ecosistemes marins.

Haven’t we ever swum in the sea and found ourselves surrounded by floating algae and haven’t we tried to get away from them as we found them disgusting and disturbing? Surely, we have all done that at some point. We are not aware of how much they enrich our beaches. What greatly misunderstood organisms have they been!

This research work is focused on the study of the composition and the abundance of the macroalgal community in Cala Margarida, a cove located in Palamós. Their distribution according to the gradient of sea-land and specific environmental factors such as exposure to waves and photoperiod has been analysed. Furthermore, this research work studies how the existence of an artificial ladder and a springboard affects the seaweed community.
