Aquest treball s’ha fet amb la finalitat d’intentar trobar si els vells mites dels pescadors de la zona sobre la garoina són veritat o no.

El treball conté dues parts. La primera on s’ha recopilat informació teòrica sobre les garoines per saber-ne més; i la segona, que és el treball d’investigació, el qual es subdivideix en dos subapartats. En el primer s’observa l’evolució que va fent la massa de les gònades de la garoina al llarg de l’any, i en la segona la reproducció d’elles durant els diferents mesos de l’any. Amb aquest treball de camp, al final, s’ha arribat a la conclusió que les garoines mascles i femelles no es poden diferenciar a simple vista, que el pes de les garoines és més elevat els mesos freds, durant el període de reproducció. I que és a l’estiu quan es buiden i ja no tenen cèl·lules sexuals. Per això es bo agafar-les només a l’hivern, ja que estan en època de reproducció i no hi ha perill d’extinció.

This research paper is written with the aim to try to find if those old beliefs of local fishermen about sea urchins are true or not.

The paper is divided into two parts. The first part deals with all the theory about sea urchins in order to know more about these fish. The second part, which is the research part itself, is divided into two other parts. This first part deals with the evolution of the gonads of sea urchins throughout the year and the second part is about their reproduction throughout the year. The final conclusion of this research paper shows that male and female sea urchins cannot be distinguished at first glance and that their weight is higher in colder months during the reproduction period. Moreover the paper also shows that in summer sea urchins lack sexual cells. That is why winter is the best period to catch them since they are in reproduction period and there is no danger of extinction.
