Committee on Faculty Appointments (CFA)

The Committee on Faculty Appointments (CFA) reviews all reappointments, promotions, and applications for sabbatical leave for the full time faculty.  The CFA reviews materials prepared by the faculty member and hears presentations of each case made by the appropriate dean.  The CFA is chaired by the Provost and is composed of seven full-time members of the faculty, all having a minimum of six years of service at Rhode Island School of Design, and all of whom shall have passed the critical probationary review.  Five members are elected by the faculty and two are appointed by the Provost.  The Committee’s vote on each case is considered by the Provost who makes a recommendation to the President. The President makes recommendations to the Board of Trustees.

Academic Affairs holds a Dossier and Evaluation Workshop early each Fall to orient faculty who are eligible for reappointment, Critical Review, and/or promotion.  The workshop provides guidance for faculty member regarding the dossier and preparation for the review process. Documents regarding roles and responsibilities of the faculty member, department head, dean, CFA, Provost and President are attached below.

The CFA is supported by Margaret Lewis, mlewis@risd.edu, 401-454-6591.
