Course Evaluations

Digital Student Evaluations of Courses/Smart Eval
Full-time faculty may elect to be evaluated on paper forms OR by digital form. They are asked each semester for their preferences. 

Wintersession Travel courses are evaluated digitally.

All part-time faculty and graduate students who are faculty of record are evaluated digitally on the SmartEval system.   

To review past evaluations or to add questions, log on to SmartEvals.com/risd. with your RISD user name and password. 

A sample of the evaluation form is attached below. No question can be eliminated from the form but with some forethought, faculty can add questions regarding course content, delivery platforms, readings, projects, etc. that will provide them specific meaningful feedback.Instructions for adding questions, editing emails that go to students from the system, and how to look at results two weeks after grades have been posted appear below.

Recommended best practice is to allow for class time during the last two weeks of the semester for students to complete their digital evaluations in class.

Full-time faculty: PDF copies of student evaluations are uploaded following each semester to the Google evaluation processes folders created for full-time faculty.

Adjunct faculty can download pdfs of their course evaluations from SmartEvals.com/risd as long as they actively employed by the College and maintain their faculty email credentials. 

Graduate students who served as faculty of record can download pdfs of their course evaluations from SmartEvals.com/risd prior to their graduation.
