Emergency Preparedness & RISD!Alert

RISD!Alert  The RISD!Alert emergency notification system allows RISD to distribute time-sensitive, emergency information quickly to faculty, staff, and students by means of broadcast telephone, e-mail, and text messaging. RISD students, faculty and staff must designate a cell phone number in Workday to receive text notifications. Here’s how to update your contact information in Workday

Fire Emergencies  If you witness flames or smoke in any RISD building, immediately pull the nearest Fire Alarm Pull and evacuate the building. Once you have safely evacuated the building, contact the Department of Public Safety at 401-454-6666 or via a Code Blue Phone to apprise the Public Safety Dispatcher of the situation. Pulling the fire alarm will immediately notify Public Safety of where the alarm is and result in the immediate dispatch of the Providence Fire Department. If you are in a building and the fire alarm sounds, evacuate the building immediately and wait for instructions from the Department of Public Safety or the Providence Fire Department.

Medical Emergencies In the event of a serious injury or medical emergency on campus, call the Department of Public Safety at 401-454-6666. The Department of Public Safety has trained Emergency Medical Technicians on duty 24 hours a day.  Public Safety Dispatchers also monitor 911 calls placed from campus phones. If you make a 911 call from a campus phone a Public Safety Officer will immediately be dispatched to the location to investigate and render aid until Providence emergency officials can arrive.  Contacting the Department of Public Safety first guarantees that the victim of a medical emergency will receive emergency treatment in the shortest amount of time possible. The Public Safety Dispatcher will dispatch Providence emergency personnel directly if they are needed in any emergency.

If you make a 911 call for a campus emergency from your cell phone, please immediately contact Public Safety at 401-454-6666. Public Safety can only monitor 911 calls from campus phones.

Accidents that occur on campus should be reported immediately to the Department of Public Safety and your department head. First Report of Injury forms – a requirement for insurance and workman’s compensation reports – will be filed with the victim’s supervisor and then forwarded to the Human Resources Office.
