Motion of Support for Part-Time Faculty

Daniel Lefcourt, Chair, Faculty Roles & Responsibilities

● Motion: The full-time faculty recognize and support the vital work that is done by our part-time faculty colleagues.

Part-time faculty teach the majority of courses at RISD and provide inestimable support to our students. Since the

faculty makes decisions about programs and procedures through our committees and the faculty meeting, we

invite the part-time faculty to participate in that governance. Committees will have positions open for part-time

faculty to be elected in the fall. The Faculty Steering Committee will have a position for a part-time faculty

co-chair. These positions are opportunities to increase the voice and influence of part-time faculty and in no way

obligatory. Compensation will be as per contract.

Discussion:

● This includes the standing committees but not the CFA (Committee on Faculty Appointments).

Voting Results

● PT Faculty motion: passed with 96%.
