Faulkton Area Schools 24-4 Board of Education

The regular monthly meeting of the Faulkton Area Schools 24-4 Board of Education was called to order by Chairman Heather Bode at 7:34 p.m. in the office of the superintendent.

Roll call of members present were Heather Bode, Todd Brand and Grady Heitmann. Arriving at 7:36 p.m.was Gary Bowar. Arriving at 7:50 p.m. was Kelly Aesoph. Also present were Supt. Joel Price and Business Official Cindy Kopecky.

Motion by Brand, second by Heitmann to approve the minutes of the September 13, 2012 special meeting, the minutes of the September 19, 2012 regular meeting; the September 2012 Imprest Fund Report; the September 2012 Trust and Agency Fund Report; the September 2012 Financial Statement; and payment of the October 15, 2012 bills.

Recognition: Mr. Price announced that the Faulkton Elementary was named an Exemplary School by the SD Department of Education. The elementary was in the top 5% of elementary schools in South Dakota in achievement of math and reading scores and attendance.

2012-13 044.

Motion by Heitmann, second by Brand to move Sarah Lambert on the salary schedule from BA Step 3 $29,200.00 to BA Step 3 +15 $30,200.00 base salary with the addition of FFA $2,688.00 and extended contract $3,375.74 for a total contract of $36,263.72 for the 2012-13 school year. All in favor, motion carried.

2012-13 045.

Motion by Brand, second by Bowar to appoint Heather Bode as the District’s Board of Education Delegate and Kelly Aesoph as the Board of Education’s Alternate Delegate to the ASBSD Delegate Assembly in Pierre on November 16, 2012. All in favor, motion carried.

Advocacy Platform Resolutions: Mr. Price reviewed resolutions that would be presented at the delegate assembly and their impact to the Faulkton School District.

Secondary Principal/AD Report: Mr. Cassens: Mr. Cassens was not present but had a written report for the board that included information on Staff Development, a Service Learning Update, and members of a committee for the attendance policy discussions.

Superintendent’s Report: Mr. Price: Mr. Price reported to the board on the District’s Accountability Report. This is a required annual report that provides information to patrons on the districts testing scores and proficiency ratings.

Kopecky reminded the board that there was a special meeting scheduled prior to the regular November meeting for Nov. 12 at 6:30 p.m. to discuss Goals and Objectives of the district.
