SS25-Q1-L9-The Cosmic Conflict
February 22-28, 2025
Sabbath Afternoon–February 22, 2025
Scripture Reading for the Week:
Matt. 13:24-27; Gen. 1:31; Ezek. 28:12-19; Isa. 14:12-15; Matt. 4:1-11; John 8:44-45
Thought for Meditation
From the very beginning of the great controversy in heaven it has been Satan's purpose to overthrow the law of God. It was to accomplish this that he entered upon his rebellion against the Creator, and though he was cast out of heaven he has continued the same warfare upon the earth. To deceive men, and thus lead them to transgress God's law, is the object which he has steadfastly pursued. Whether this be accomplished by casting aside the law altogether, or by rejecting one of its precepts, the result will be ultimately the same. He that offends "in one point," manifests contempt for the whole law; his influence and example are on the side of transgression; he becomes "guilty of all." James 2:10. {GC 582.1}
Memory Verse
And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel. {Genesis 3:15}

Introduction
Since the beginning of time, an unseen battle has been waged between good and evil, truth and deception, Christ and Satan. This cosmic conflict did not originate on Earth but in heaven itself, where Lucifer, once an exalted angel, rebelled against God’s authority (Ezekiel 28:12-19; Isaiah 14:12-15). His rebellion led to his expulsion, and from that moment on, he has sought to deceive humanity and turn people away from God’s law (Revelation 12:7-9).
This week's study will explore how Satan’s rebellion impacted the world, leading to sin, suffering, and the ongoing battle for human souls. We will examine key moments in this controversy, from the fall of Lucifer to Satan’s deception of Adam and Eve, the temptation of Christ in the wilderness (Matthew 4:1-11), and ultimately, the victory promised through Jesus Christ (Genesis 3:15).
As we study, we must ask ourselves: Where do we stand in this great conflict? Are we aligning with God’s truth, or are we being deceived by the enemy?
Purpose of the Study
This week’s study aims to:
✅ Understand the origin of sin – How did rebellion begin in heaven, and why did Satan challenge God’s authority?
✅ Recognize Satan’s tactics – How does he deceive people today, and how can we guard against his lies? (John 8:44-45)
✅ Find hope in Christ’s victory – How does Genesis 3:15 reveal the ultimate defeat of Satan?
✅ Strengthen our faith – How can we stand firm in God’s truth and righteousness in the midst of this conflict?
As we journey through these lessons, may we be reminded that God’s kingdom will ultimately prevail and that He calls us to stand on the side of truth, faithfulness, and obedience.
Insights for the Week
🔹 The cosmic conflict is centered on God’s law – Satan's goal is to overthrow God’s authority by leading people into transgression (GC 582.1).
🔹 Satan’s deception comes in different forms – Whether through outright rebellion or subtle compromises, his mission remains the same: to turn people away from God.
🔹 Jesus is the key to victory – Christ resisted Satan’s temptations (Matthew 4:1-11) and secured our redemption through His sacrifice.
🔹 The conflict will soon end – The promise of Genesis 3:15 assures us that Satan’s power will be crushed, and God's eternal kingdom will be established.
As we study this crucial theme, may our hearts be strengthened in faith, our minds enlightened with truth, and our lives fully surrendered to God’s victorious plan.
