SS25-Q4-L4 - The Conflict Behind All Conflicts—October 18–24
Saturday Afternoon
Key Scriptures for the Week: Josh. 5:13-15; Isa. 37:16; Rev. 12:7-9; Deut. 32:17; Exod. 14:13-14; Josh. 6:15-20
Thought for Meditation:
A battle is continually going on between the forces for good and the forces for evil, between the angels of God and the fallen angels. We are beset before and behind, on the right hand and on the left. The conflict that we are passing through is the last we shall have in this world. We are now in the midst of it. Two parties are striving for the supremacy. In this conflict we cannot be neutral. We must stand either on one side or on the other. If we take our position on the side of Christ, if we acknowledge Him before the world in word and work, we are bearing a living testimony as to whom we have chosen to serve and honor. In this important period of earth's history, we cannot afford to leave anyone in uncertainty as to whose side we are on. . . . {YRP 365.2}
Memory Text: And there was no day like that before it or after it, that the LORD hearkened unto the voice of a man: for the LORD fought for Israel. (Joshua 10:14)
The Purpose of This Week’s Lesson
The purpose of this week’s study is to uncover the great controversy behind every earthly conflict—a spiritual war between Christ and Satan, good and evil, light and darkness. This battle, which began in heaven (Revelation 12:7–9), is now reaching its final and most decisive stage on earth. Like Joshua and Israel before the walls of Jericho, God’s people today are called to stand on the Lord’s side (Joshua 5:13–15), trust in His leadership, and cooperate with the heavenly army that fights for them (Joshua 10:14).
The study aims to lead us to:
Recognize the unseen conflict behind the visible struggles of nations, churches, and individual lives.
Take a clear stand on Christ’s side, for neutrality is impossible in this final controversy.
Strengthen faith in God’s mighty power to fight for His people and give them victory.
Understand that obedience to divine instructions, as with the fall of Jericho’s walls, is the key to triumph.
Prepare God’s end-time army to cooperate with heavenly agencies in the finishing of the work and the establishment of His Kingdom.
✨ Spirit of Prophecy Insight:
“A battle is continually going on between the forces for good and the forces for evil, between the angels of God and the fallen angels. We are beset before and behind, on the right hand and on the left. The conflict that we are passing through is the last we shall have in this world. We are now in the midst of it. Two parties are striving for the supremacy. In this conflict we cannot be neutral.” — YRP 365.2
“Every day the conflict between Christ and Satan is renewed. As believers in Jesus Christ, we must stand in defense of the truth and righteousness.” — RH, May 3, 1887
📜 Prophetic Insight:
“The battle of Jericho is a type of the destruction of the antitypical Jericho—the world under Satan’s dominion. As ancient Israel marched under divine direction, so modern Israel must follow the Lamb whithersoever He goeth. The victory is not gained by human might but by divine power.” — SRod, Vol. 2, p. 45
“The great controversy between Christ and Satan is to close with the Lord Himself taking the battlefield. He will fight for His people as He did in the days of Joshua, and every opposing wall shall fall before Him.” — Timely Greetings, Vol. 1, No. 37, p. 13
🪔 Summary:
This week’s lesson calls us to see beyond the surface of human conflicts and understand the cosmic war behind them. God is assembling His faithful army, not to fight with carnal weapons, but with faith, obedience, and the power of His Word. Victory is assured—not because of human strength, but because “the Lord fought for Israel” (Joshua 10:14), and He will fight for His people again in this final battle of earth’s history.
