For the 2nd time in school history, the gymnastics team proved to be number one by winning the AAA State Championship title. With an overall season score of 150.2, the team was also able to take the District and Regional titles.
Coached by Monica Brown, and Mandy Teets-Seal, the Championship-winning team was a great mix of talent led by captain Beth Longo. Returning gymnast Jacquie Teets brought power to floor exercise, newcomer Kayla Deitz was a great addition to the balance beam, and transfer Kendra Burgsteiner showed off new heights on the uneven bars, as did freshman Megan McDonald. Briana Knox was a beast on vault, and Samantha Garzione, Ashley Birt, and Kelly Keating stepped up throughout the season, giving the team a well-rounded roster with tremendous help from managers Becca Parker, Jimmil Moore, and Alonzo (Zo) Muse.
The team’s diligence throughout the season paid off when they beat the opposing champions from last year, Kellam High School, who came close to a victory again with a total score of 148.7. The team came out strong from the beginning of the season and stayed on top through the end. They had an amazing ability to adapt and stay focused. All of our state meet routines were spot-on and flawless, and it was no surprise to see the gymnasts work together to edge out the fierce competition for the win. It was the 1st time since 1985 that Osbourn Park won the AAA State Championship Gymnastics Team Title.
