Michael Foley came to Osbourn Park High School transferring from Fauquier school in January of 1979. He began his coaching career that semester when Athletic Director, Al Crow, asked him to be the boys tennis coach. He also, helped coach the wrestling team on a volunteer status and later became the head coach for wrestling in 1981-82 until he retired from coaching wrestling after the 94-95 school year having won one district title and had four individual state champs (Kirk Crawford -twice, Andy Thomas and Jimmy Greene), 13 all-state wrestlers, 9 individual regional champions, 43 all-region wrestlers, and 22 individual district champions. In 1982 he was named the head Golf coach keeping that position until he retired from coaching in 2015.
In that time, he coached 15 individual all-district golfers, 4 individual district champions, 3 individual district champions, three regional champions, and one individual state champion (Daniel Kefale). 3 district team championships, three regional team championships, and one all-state team. In 1991, he was asked to be an assistant coach for the softball team which he served for four years. Coach Foley has also been the “Voice of the Jackets” announcing all home football games. He’s also served as announcer for many other school activities, most notably graduations and scholarship awards ceremonies. He served on the scholarship committee for Osbourn Park beginning in 1988 and was named chairman in 1990 staying on the on that committee until 2006. he was a marketing teacher for his entire career and sponsored the DECA chapter at Osborne Park High School having much success with his DECA members.
All three of his children are Osbourn Park High School. l his daughters played softball and were managers of the wrestling team his son played golf and was on the wrestling team. Coach Foley was named named coach of the year several times in the Potomac News and Journal Messenger for golf and wrestling. In 2011 he was asked to be the chairman for the Osborn Park High School Athletic Boosters golf tournament, a fund raising event by the boosters. He received the 2018 VHSL Regional Award of Merit for region 6D.
