During his time at OP Kevin amassed some incredible records and accomplishments. To name just a few:
1st place in 1981 in the 3200 at states (new record of 9:30)
1st place in the 1981 cross country meet
1st place in 1982 in the 1600 at states
1st place in 1982 in the 3200 at states (broke his previous record with 9:24)
3rd place in 1982 in the mile at the Golden South Invitational with a time fo 4:13
Washington Post runner of the year in 1981
When the cross country team won the state title in 1981, that was the first state title won by any team at OPHS.
Notable: On Kevin's first day of cross country practice when he was a freshman, Coach Kuhn pulled the freshmen boys away from the rest of the team and told them that if they committed to run with him for four years, they’d win the state title when they were seniors. Four years later, they won the state title and the team also placed first at the big invitational cross country meets, beating the best public and private schools in the mid-Atlantic Region. OPHS had one of the best cross country teams in the nation during the fall of 1981.
When Kevin was at UVA, he felt he had to choose between engineering school or track/cross country. He wasn't strong enough a student to manage the engineering school workload while training long hours with the team. He chose engineering school, and has had a long, successful career with big technology companies. And during that entire time, he has never stopped running - he still runs today and still loves it.
He is an account executive for Adobe, and a freelancer for the Washington Post (writing and photography).
