Carl Kuhn was the Coach of Osbourn Park's first State Championship Team! He coached the OPHS cross country team that won the state title in 1981, and the track team that finished second in the state in 1982. He was an athlete who ran with the teams he coached. When he was in college, he was the starting quarterback for UVA.
Carl Kuhn attended The University of Virginia on full scholarship and played QB, RB, DB and returned punts. He was a co-captain with Gary Cuozzo (later played as back up QB to Johnny Unitas with Colts) and Dave Graham (played OT with Eagles). After graduating, he played semi-pro ball for a couple of years in the Continental League.
Predating OPHS, Carl was hired at Osbourn HS in 1973 before the school split into Osbourn and OPHS.
He was the Northern Virginia Track and Field Coach of the year, 1980 and in 1981 become the coach of the first team to win a state title for OPHS (cross country).
According to a newspaper article from 1981 written by Ralph Conte, it was the first state title for both Osbourn and Osbourn Park going back to the 1940s. OPHS was a new school in 1981, and comparisons with Osbourn were still being made.

1981: Kuhn coached two OPHS cross country runners who qualified and ran in the National Championship meet at Disney World in Orlando, Florida -- Kevin Ambrose and Mark Rusciolelli.
Later in life, Carl was an age-group champion in dozens of triathlon races.
He competed for Team USA in national as well as world championships, traveling from Manchester UK to Perth Australia, Italy, Queenstown, to name a few.

All in all, he competed in about 200 triathlons, and many marathons, duathlons, 10ks, etc.
