Todd Colas '80

Todd Colas was one of the cornerstone blocks that built Osbourn Park’s dominance of Cross County and the distance events from 1976-1982. Todd’s talent, grit, and speed dominated the individual middle-distance events (800m-1000m-1600m) in Prince William County; in all levels of competition while competing for Osbourn Park (1976-1980). He had epic battles with some of the best athletes through-out Virginia and the Nation. In 1980, he was undefeated in indoor track season and set state records in the 1000 and 1600 meters in was one of only (2) athletes to win the prestigious CYO Mile and the Naval Academy Invitational Mile in the same year.

His accomplishments while a Yellow Jacket were many:

  • (3) Time AA State Champion 1000m (1979-1980) 1600m (Indoor, 1980)

  • Undefeated in indoor track season and set state records in the 1000 and 1600 meters-1980

  • (6) Time All State (AA) in Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor Track

  • School Record Holder at 1600m 4m09.64

  • Named Prince William Area Track Competitor of the Year-197Voted Northern Virginia top track athlete of the year–1980

  • Only the second runner in to win the CYO Mile and Naval Academy Invitational Mile in the same year-1980.

Notable: While running professional for Puma, Todd was named Outstanding Male Competitor Bud Lite Invitational at George Mason February 18, 1985.

After OPHS

Heavily recruited out of high school, he chose the University of Pittsburgh and went onto an accomplished collegiate career and ran professionally for Puma.

While in college Todd experienced a healthy amount of success as well.

  • 1984 NCAA All-American at 1000m and an Academic All-American-1983

  • Earned (11) Varsity Letters at Pitt

  • Pitt Record holder at 1000 Yards, 1000 and 1500 Meters

  • Lead Carry 4x800m Relay that set the Pitt record at 7m16.04

  • Ran mile leg which held the Distant Medley Relay US Record-1984

  • Ranked No. 1 among all collegians in 1000 meters-1984

  • Won several Big East Championship(s) as an Individual and in Relay events

As for his athletic successes, Todd credits his brothers as a huge influence as well as the encouragement from his coaches. Since 2009, Todd has created and is the Managing Partner for two companies based in Denver, Colorado.
