Born and raised in Glassport, Pennsylvania, Chuck Hornfeck is a lifelong educator and coach whose career has spanned nearly four decades. A 1958 graduate of Glassport High School, Chuck was a standout athlete, playing four years of football and three years of baseball. His athletic talent earned him a four-year football scholarship to The George Washington University, where he graduated in 1962 with a Bachelor of Science in Health and Physical Education.
Chuck began his teaching and coaching career at Good Counsel High School (1962–1968), where he taught Biology and served as assistant football coach. In 1968, he joined Bishop Ireton High School as an assistant football coach and was promoted to head coach in 1969, a role he held until 1972.
In 1973, Chuck moved to Osbourn High School as a PE/Health teacher and assistant football coach under Carl Kuhn. His coaching journey continued at Osbourn Park High School in 1977, where he served as assistant coach to Bob Bailess. When Bailess stepped down in 1981, Chuck took over as head football coach, leading the team for 14 successful seasons until his resignation in 1994.
Even after stepping down as head coach, Chuck remained dedicated to education and student development. He continued teaching driver education at Osbourn Park until his retirement in 2001. His passion for coaching brought him back to the field as an assistant coach under Brian Beatty in 2001 and 2002.
Reflecting on his time at Osbourn Park, Chuck fondly remembers the enthusiastic, athletic, and intelligent student athletes, the knowledgeable and passionate coaching staff, and the consistently supportive administration. He describes it as a truly positive and rewarding environment to work in.
