Laura was an outstanding multi-sport athlete at OPHS from 1992-1996. She excelled on both the soccer field and basketball court. Playing sports was just part of life in her family and she began playing soccer and basketball at a very young age, following in the footsteps of her older brothers. She was a 4-year starter on the varsity soccer team and served as captain in her junior and senior years. She was a 3-year starter on the varsity basketball team and served as captain her senior year. She was awarded MVP of both the varsity soccer and basketball teams and awarded OPHS Female Athlete of the Year her senior year. She also earned academic honors, including academic letters all four years of high school. She decided to forgo playing in college and attended James Madison University where she majored in Integrated Science and Technology with a concentration in Biotechnology. While at JMU, she realized she couldn’t step away so easily and petitioned the University to start a Club Women’s Basketball team. She recruited players and a coach, and the team went on to win the East Coast Conference championships against UMD, UNC and UVA. The student coach recruited for the club team is now the Women’s Basketball Coach at St. John’s University. For the 20+ years since college, Laura has held roles of increasing responsibility driving technology strategy in the biotechnology/pharmaceutical industry. Laura and her husband have 2 daughters and live outside Boulder, Colorado. Both girls are talented athletes as well, the oldest is committed to playing D1 soccer at the University of Arizona.
