Debbie Saffer was a four year starter in both basketball and softball. She was also an all-district player in both sports. Saffer was the first girls basketball player at Osbourn Park to score over 1000 points in her career.
Saffer is described as the ultimate teammate, example, positive influence, and leader. Even returning to OP after graduation to cheer on teammates she had left behind. After high school she went to UNC Wilmington to play basketball.
Sadly, Saffer was killed in a car accident in 2001.
Notable - Saffer's teammates contend her point total and average would have been higher for her career had she played in an era with a 3 point line. Saffer's favorite shots were "from the parking lot".
