Police
419 Ford Zephyr Motorway Patrol Car
August 1960 - 1965
Available with both types of fixed wheel as well as free-spinning shaped wheels for late editions. There are also two types of roof light, large and small. The larger type seems to be on those models with free spinning wheels.
There are ranges of colour from white to cream but they seem to be spread pretty much across the range although the thin white paint is more commonly found on early editions and glossier, thicker paint on later editions.Â
There are POLITE and RJIKSPOLITE editions for the Dutch market.
464 Commer Police Van
July 1963 - 1967 (1st issue)
February 1967 - 1968 (2nd issue)
With a working flashing roof light, revised in February 1967.
Available with 'County Police' transfers on a dark blue van. An export edition in green is rare.
Transfers reading 'City Police' are known but I am uncertain as to whether a model bearing them was actually generally available. One was accidentally included in a photo sent to me - which was to show me a more common model - but I am not sure whether this has been restored and a replacement transfer applied.
The second edition has a revised battery holder and mechanism and the text POLICE is shown raised in the side in the casting metal. The second issue does not have the window bars in the casting.
448 Police Mini Van
September 1964 - 1969
In the box would be a police dog, its handler and a lead on a scenic inner tray.
Available with shaped and cast wheels
492 Volkswagen 1200 European Police Car
May 1966 - 1970
With steering controlled from the roof beacon, this was a revision of the East African Safari 256 LHD model.
Always with shaped wheels.
A scarce all-white edition was produced for export. For the Netherlands POLITE stickers on the bonnet and a blue emblem on the doors or POLIZEI in black on white on the doors and bonnet for Switzerland.
373 VW 1200 Police Car
September 1970 - 1976
You almost need a catalogue just for this model! This is the Whizzwheels edition of 492.

Nothing now opens, nor is there any steering or mudflaps. The first type has a driver. The others appear to have no driver(s).
506 Police 'Panda' Sunbeam Imp
May 1968 -1969 (white and black)
February 1969 - 1972 (blue and white)
Models usually have a driver but he is known to be missing from some editions.
The first edition had two variations:Â
a back roof and black text on white labels on the doors
black bonnet and door panel with red text on white labels
All 506 models had cast wheels and just two jewels, despite the 340 Monte Carlo casting being used which now has, occasionally quite obvious, filling in the fog lamp jewel placings.
509 Porsche 911 Targa Police Car
June 1970 - 1975
The Porsche Targa's first appearance as a German police edition.
A Dutch edition with Rijkspolitie stickers and orange panels was produced as well as variations for the normal edition that had red labels on white doors.
The wheels will usually be the 'pepper pot' style for the red door models but later issues, and the white door models, will have the 'four crown' type and maybe, as the production was quite extended, the 'six point star' type, although I have not seen any.
I would expect the export editions to have the first and second types of wheel.
461 Range Rover 'Vigilant' Police Vehicle
January 1972 - 1979
Supplied with a pack of 8 fold-away signs and bollards.
A Whizzwheels model, models having the 'four crowns' type wheel. In view of the length of production, I would expect to see later styles too but none have come to light so far.
This is the Police edition. There is a similar Ambulance model 482.
Editions with different styles of stripe are known.
482 Range Rover Ambulance
May 1975 - 1977
Another variation of the Range Rove, this time with difference roof furniture and a black 'Ambulance' stripe and label, as well as red cross labels.
This came in the box with twp ambulance men carrying a patient on a stretcher. I am not sure whether this actually fitted inside the model, however!
The wheels are the 'four crown' type but may have been revised later as this model was in production when later types were more common.
