March 1970 - 1970
Available for only a short period in 1970 before the switch to Whizzwheels in October.
This is Corgi's first Rolls Royce and it had Golden Jacks take-off wheels with a spare in the boot. The doors, bonnet and boot opened.
The majority of models were cream over grey-blue but a few were issued in silver over metallic blue, the colour adopted for the first Whizzwheels issue.
October 1970 - 1978
The Whizzwheels version, first released in 1970. The body remains as for the 273 but now with brown interior and no spare wheel in the boot.
The silver over metallic blue editions are the earliest and have the standard 'four crowns' type of wheel and a quarter light.
Next all blue models are issued in various shades, the first having quarter lights but later models do not. The blues are mostly metallic but some solid blue colours are also known from early issues. Some metallic blue models have a much later style wheel, a six-pointed star design but still have the ¼ light.
The final model has a silver finish and either gold or silver chrome-work / wheels. All the silver models have a later, more realistic style of wheel. Some metallic blue models may have these wheels too but I have not seen any. It seems that models with the later more realistic wheel have no ¼ light.
There is also a scarce metallic gold model (which may appear silver in photos at first glance!) It is, though, quite distinct when placed side by side with a silver model and all the examples I have seen have had silver wheels and chrome-work.
The Whizzwheels models retain the opening features of the 273 model but do not have a spare in the boot.
May 1966 - 1969
A 'Classics' issue with either silver or gold wheels. The front and rear wheels have different style and there are large jewels in the headlamps.
A later 1980s reproduction looks similar but has the same style of wheel front and rear and no jewels as the most obvious differences.
June 1970 -1971
The 9041 casting gets put to further use as transport in psychedelic colours for The Hardy Boys, a US group that, despite being a huge pop fan at the time, I'd never heard of.
In the box is a set of the characters on a plinth which can also be attached to the roof of the car.
