Renault

222 Renault Floride

October 1959 - 1965

The first Corgi with suspension.

Available in several colours:

Early editions had fixed smooth wheels, then fixed shaped wheels and later editions have free-spinning shaped wheels. To date I have seen red and olive models with both types of fixed wheel but none with free spinning wheels and the metallic blue model only with free-spinning wheels.

There are reports of two types of body - some with closed vents at the side, in front of the rear wheel. I have yet to find one and I don't know whether they exist or not. I am assuming they don't as I would have thought at least one would have surfaced by now. My guess is that any that have been seen could simply be the result of the production process not clearing out the holes in a rogue casting perhaps..

There are some distinct shades of red / maroon and white or lemon interiors for these colours.

Gift Set 13 Tour de France Renault 16

July 1968 - 1972

The set features a Renault 16 adapted to have a camera unit on a rear extension. The car has a Panorama roof sign which is usually black but can be found also in red. The set also included a Race Manager, a driver in the Renault and a cyclist on his bike. This edition does not have a folding seat mechanism.

The Renault has cast wheels.

Models with a black headboard also have RENAULT 16 on the base. Those with a red headboard have RENAULT 16TS on the base.

260 Renault 16

February 1969 - 1969

Available only for a short period, this is the normal saloon Renault 16 saloon on which the GS13 edition had been based. Oddly, this is issued later than the amended Set version.

Available only in metallic maroon with a bright yellow interior. A wheel at the side operates the front seat folding mechanism.

This model has cast wheels.

Despite its short life there are two types of base. One has RENAULT 16 and the other RENAULT 16TS. Note the different hook-retaining rings too.

202 Renault 16

May 1970 - 1973

The Whizzwheels version. Under the bonnet, however, there is still a 260 cast wheel!

Available in metallic blue with a bright orange-yellow interior as before, with folding front seats.

The base on this one has RENAULT 16"TS"

This was issued with 'pepper pot' style wheels at first then 'four crowns' type later.

'pepperpot' wheels (but not the spare!)
