Land Rovers
500 US Army Land Rover
November 1963 - 1963 for export only
The 500 model can be distinguished by a window unit that fills the space at the rear of the cab and also creates a sort of 'frame' in the perspex. The stars on the bonnet and doors also appear to be creamy rather than a bright white of the later 357 model.
The finish should be a matt khaki colour. Darker, shinier colours are likely to be the result of handling over the years rather than being a different paint colour or type. Matt paint will very quickly absorb oils from hands and it is recommended these models are treated with care if they have, indeed, retained their matt finish to date.
357 US Army Land Rover Weapons Carrier
January 1965 - 1966
Available with red or lemon interior
The 357 has a different type of window unit that does not create a sort of 'frame' and does not fill the space at the rear of the cab. The stars are a brighter, less creamy, white.

Roof bar variation
Some 357 models have shorter roof bars on the 'plate' on the roof.
