Mini-Cooper
The Mini-Cooper brand appears first as Morris Mini-Cooper and then as BMC Mini-Cooper, usually sporting the Morris badge on the bonnet, although some editions of the 333 and 339 models used the Austin casting and will have the Austin badge instead. These models are also listed under their respective Morris or BMC title pages.
227 Morris Mini Cooper
May 1962 - 1965
The Morris casting is revised for a series of Mini Coopers, initially designated as Morris Mini-Coopers.
Interiors for the blue can be lemon or red. For the primrose models the interior is always red.
There are thick and thin types of numerals for the RN transfers 1, 3 and 7.
They all use the same Type 1 cast but may have Type 1b or 1c bases.
The colours can be blue or primrose with the bonnet either in the body colour or white.
It appears that most white bonnet editions have fixed shaped wheels but most later models with body colour bonnets have free-spinning wheels.
321 BMC Mini Cooper S Monte Carlo 1965
February 1965 - 1966
One of two Monte Carlo Minis with the same catalogue number but this has a completely different front to most of the Mini Coopers, with two fog lamps in the cast. This is the edition also found in Gift Set 38. RN 52 three jewels in the grille.
Always with shaped wheels and Morris badged.
249 Morris Mini Cooper 'Wickerwork'
November 1965 - 1969
Black with a red roof and lemon interior. This model can be found with Type 1 or Type 2 body casting.
It can have free-spinning shaped wheels or cast wheels.
333 BMC Mini Cooper S Sun International Rally
January 1967 - 1967
Another Rally car, issued with the Rover 2000 for the RAC Sun Rally. RN 21. 4 jewels in the grille.
This can be found with an Austin badge and shaped wheels or a Morris badge with cast wheels
339 BMC Mini Cooper S Monte Carlo
March 1967 - 1971
The 1967 edition of the Monte Carlo series, different again, with the obvious roof rack and front end signs.
This can be found with an Austin badge and shaped or cast wheels or a Morris badge with cast wheels.
Early editions had transfers for the Rally boards, later had paper stickers.
This continued in production, changing colour for the Whizzwheels 308 model in 1971/2.
The Mini-Coopers were mostly produced using the Mk1 Morris body and had larger headlamps jewels than those produced using the Austin Mk 1 body. The 333 and 339 models are the only models which were produced with both Austin and Morris castings. Morris editions of the 339 can be found with Type 2 bodies too.
334 BMC Mini Cooper S 'Magnifique'
December 1968 - 1970
Issued in metallic green or metallic blue and always with cast wheels.
The only variation known is a scarce wider striped roof blind. Whether that was, indeed, issued or is just a pre-production item that has reached the market is not clear.
One otherwise quite reputable site seems to suggest that the narrower stripes are the scarcer but that is not correct.
308 BMC Mini Cooper S Monte Carlo
January 1972 -1976
Confusingly, this is the 339 edition in yellow but with the same decals. Odd. The Whizzwheels version.
This can be found with four (early crown type) or (later) five spoke wheels, with and without tinted windows. You may find that the five-spoke editions still have the 4-spoke spares in the tray!
The interior may be red or, in later models, blue.
