As usual we went to a lot of gigs. Here are some photos. As I said in the Home Page, we saw a lot of "Farewell Shows". Roy Harper was amazing in London at 84, helped out by his son Nick, who played fabulous guitar on "Same Old Rock". Ashley Hutchings likewise was helped by his son Blair Dunlop - lovely to hear some of those old Fairport songs again at his 80th Birthday Bash, and also old Albion Band songs sung by John Tams. Al Stewart at 80 was completely in command, and said he wanted to retire before he needed a teleprompter. We also saw Peggy Seeger at 90 - still amazing.
Mike Heron was another who needed a bit of help from his daughter - we saw him at a show called "Songs of the Incredible String Band" at the Queen Elizabeth Hall. Lovely to see him again.
Prize for the most gigs was Lady Maisery - we saw them twice as themselves and once with the Awake Arise band. All three were brilliant and memorable concerts.
Most of the gigs were people we knew already - old favourites like Lucy Farrell, Richard Thompson etc, but we saw Tarren for the first time - who were great at the Black Fen Folk Club (a proper folk club). The Songs of the Incredible String Band show was a bit of a revelation too - there were loads of young artists who we'd never even heard of, singing tremendous versions of many of our favourite ISB songs. Heart-warming.
Another first was seeing Laura Jurd, the jazz trumpeter. She came to Cambridge with a stunning band of bass, drums and viola. Really exciting to see!
The year ended, as so often before, with Kate Rusby's Christmas Show at the Corn Exchange.
