At the beginning of March Mike retired from his bioinformatics work at The Animal Health Trust.
Since retiring (from paid work!) we have both taken slightly different approaches to retirement. Kate is working for the National Trust at Anglesey Abbey, and has also been doing more with local Repair Cafés, while Mike has tried to fill his time with doing paintings and linocuts and a bit of jazz piano.
If you don’t know what a Repair Café is just look at these pictures! People who can repair things offer their time for free and anyone can bring something in to try to get it repaired. Very uplifting in every way.
Mike’s jazz piano is proceeding at, shall we say, a more leisurely pace. So far we have done ‘Autumn Leaves’, ‘Mr PC’, ‘What A Wonderful World’ and ‘Straight No Chaser’. He has also finished a couple of linocuts and is working on a couple of commissions for friends! Eek!
Mike misses his friends from work, but meets up with them every now and then, and a weekly art class at Bottisham Village College gets him out of the house.
And a lovely leaving card from everyone
