When we realised, a week or so before the first lockdown, that we would basically be at home for the next six months or so, we started on a series of projects to try to keep us occupied, and sane. Kate started baking bread, growing food, knitting and gardening. You can see the beans, tomatoes and other shoots in the photos below. She also diligently kept a daily diary.
Mike started a whole series of slightly less useful projects, but fun nevertheless. One of the best was a project to record our friend Mark singing the poems of A. A. Milne. We even made a CD! Smiles all round. Another was to record a version of The old Shadows tune 'Apache' in the style of prog era Pink Floyd, with Dave. Superb! (It's probably worth one listen. Well maybe...). A slightly more useful project was to learn how to play the concertina that our friend Kathy gave us. Useful in terms of exercising the brain that is. Also he did quite of lot of linocut artwork, some of which worked quite well. And a slightly random blog called "Letters From Lockdown".
Actually one thing that did work quite well was a video I made after a challenge from our friend Dave - 'Make a video playing as many instruments as possible'. Here it is: Shepherd's Hey.
Home grown beans and tomatoes
More home grown beans
Lovely purple beans (but they go green when you cook them. Chiz!)
Our entire broad bean crop. Delicious....
Mike started taking online concertina lessons with Rob Harbron.
But the concertina needed a few small repairs to stop it leaking air too much. Very complicated!
Mike's art class continued online. This homework was painting bottles!
Among a load of other knitting projects, Kate knitted this hat for Mike.
We converted a mechanical clock to a quartz mechanism, inspired by Mike's brother David.
New CD shelves for one of the upstairs rooms. Mostly Chris's CDs and overflow from the kitchen!
'Spring Morning' CD by Mark Pearson. Already a classic!
A linocut of Mike's mum's sunroom.
Kate got her knitting machine out, and sorted out loads of wool.
Netherhall Way linocut
Linocut of our greenhouse. I couldn't decide which colour was best...
Garden produce!
Gooseberry Fool - made from garden goosberries.
