We peppered our year with a load of gigs, as usual. We saw most of our favourites such as The Furrow Collective, Leveret, Jim Moray etc, but also some people we hadn't seen before. Emily and Hazel Askew, for example, were a revelation. We hadn't heard that sort of mesmerising interweaving of two instruments since Chris Wood and Andy Cutting.
Another really memorable concert was 'Spell Songs', which was a 'putting to music' of Robert MacFarlane's 'spells' about words being lost from the English language. The artist Jackie Morris painted some pictures live on stage. A concert to treasure.
When we went to Rowan Rheingans's solo concert, we didn't know what to expect at all, but her performance of a story about her grandmother in Germany during the War, 'Dispatches On The Red Dress', part narration, part song, part dance, enveloped us completely. We bumped into Shirley and Hannah there, a complete, but wonderful, coincidence.
And then of course there was Richard Thompson's 70th Birthday bash in the Albert Hall!
