In June we had a week in Wales. We decided that it would be nice and relaxing to go to a place we'd been before, in mid-Wales, quite near to Talyllyn Lake where Mike's family used to go when he was young. We did a few walks we knew, such as the famous 'Precipice Walk', near Dolgellau, and the walk up to Llyn Cau on Cadair Idris. We also went on the local narrow gauge railway, which is always fun. The smell of the steam! Mmmmm.... And Mike managed not to get grit in his eye. We returned to Harlech Castle about 35 years after our previous visit. A stunning situation, even though the weather was a bit grey. Tywyn beach was amazing ... sea, sky and reflections. We also had RSPB Ynys Hir virtually to ourselves on a sunny Sunday afternoon following a sodden rainy morning. It had a really wide range of habitats. We saw a spotted flycatcher and other unfamiliar birds, and a woodpecker's nest.
