Rationale: In order for teachers to clearly and effectively communicate learning intentions, success criteria, and lesson rationales to students, they must first have internalized these things themselves. Just as it is important for teachers to communicate these components effectively to students on a lesson-by-lesson basis, it is equally vital that they do so through the lens of an entire unit or module of study. As such, it is critical that our STT sets the tone, brings this back to Collaborative Teacher Teams, and helps teachers regularly engage together in CTTs to develop learning progressions that clearly define learning targets from a broader instructional standpoint.
Learning Intention: Teams will develop understanding for how to plan for instruction with Teacher Clarity in mind and will leverage their existing curricular resources to engage in a unit internalization process as they develop a clear learning progression.
Success Criteria: Teams will know they are successful when they…
create a shared understanding of the role of Teacher Clarity in the broader instructional planning process
practice a curriculum internalization protocol to develop learning progressions for a given unit of study
create clear learning intentions, success criteria, and rationales for a learning progression tied to the team’s CLC within an upcoming unit of study
have developed a plan to support CTTs in using Teacher Clarity during a curriculum mapping protocol
