Rationale: Core standards are often written in language that can be confusing and interpreted in numerous ways. This is especially true when an entire school is working towards a specific standard or practice, as we are with the Common Learning Challenge. Progress towards proficiency with the Common Learning Challenge will vary widely, depending on the grade level or content area. Following the systematic process of unpacking the Common Learning Challenge enables teachers schoolwide to gain clarity of learning progressions within their specific grade and content area. When we all gain this teacher clarity, it unifies the school around a common vision and enables all teachers to monitor progress of key concepts and skills for the Common Learning Challenge.
