Leading Change: Motivating the Elephant

Rationale: With unprecedented changes to the education system in recent school years, it is paramount that we as school leaders similarly adapt our practices to meet the needs of students. Effecting meaningful change in school systems is hard, and doing so requires thoughtful strategy. By systematically thinking about change and applying tried-and-true principles to effect change, we can better adapt our practices to meet the needs of students at our schools. 

Learning Intention: Teams will gain deeper context into principles from the Switch framework related to motivating the elephant and will contextualize them within their work as ATT members

Success Criteria: Teams will know they are successful when they…

• reflect on the components of the Switch Framework they have implemented to date

• have an in-depth understanding of what it means to “Motivate the Elephant”

• can apply principles related to “Motivating the Elephant” in their roles as STT members
