Rationale: In order for the information from any assessment to be useful, it must inform teaching and positively impact student learning. When teacher teams develop common short-term assessments, each teacher can identify how his or her students performed on each skill compared with other students. Individual teachers can call on their colleagues to help them reflect on areas of concern, and each teacher has access to the ideas, materials, strategies, and talents of the entire team.
Learning Intention: Teams will develop a shared understanding of the purpose of short-term assessments and practice developing short-term assessments that are aligned with learning intentions and success criteria of priority standards.
Success Criteria: Teams will know they are successful when they…
can articulate the role of short-term assessment in the broader instructional cycle
understand the connection between short-term assessment and success criteria
can clearly define success criteria for a given standard to identify a high-leverage topic for short-term assessment of that standard
