Softball season is here again at Central! Tryouts happened in late February, and Chronicle reporters were able to chat with a few members of our team to talk about the upcoming season.
Marin Boehm, a Sophomore here at Central, told me she was most looking forward to “bonding with my team, [and] hoping to gain team chemistry.” Boehm added that she had “some difficulty transitioning from baseball to softball in 6th grade, but [since] I got the hang of it, it has been really fun.” Boehm mentioned that she really enjoyed “the combination of competitiveness, but also sportsmanship with the girls on other teams.” Lastly, Boehm stated about her playing style that “I give it my all. I give 110% when I run out to the field. I try my best.”

Sophomore softball player Nessa Bleill also spoke about her anticipation of the upcoming season. She told me she was “really looking forward to meeting all the new people. The Softball program is such a community, and team bonding is one of the best parts.” Bleill stated that “my favorite memory is after the team wins, how we all feel good about how we played, and we celebrate.” Bleill also mentioned that “I enjoy the practices; it’s where all the growth and improvement happens, both individually and as a team, and you can see it during those practices.” Bleill described her style of play, saying that “I try to have fun when I play. I feel like the more competitive you play, the worse setbacks feel. If you are having fun, then it is easier to come back from that.”
When asked about what she was looking forward to this season, Sophomore Tayten Hunter said “I am most looking forward to really building a team and just growing in general.” When asked about her favorite parts about playing softball, she said “my favorite part personally has to be fielding. I play outfield so it's very fun to get out there and dive and then all the cheers when you catch it is so great”. Hunter also mentioned that she plays “very aggressively. I'm always diving for balls, I attack in the box and don't watch and wait.” Lastly, Hunter said her favorite memory of playing softball was “my first out of the park home run when I was 11 years old. I still remember that feeling of hitting the ball, and seeing it fly through the air.”
Good luck on your upcoming season Maroons! We’ll all be cheering for you.
