Drama at the VMAs

The 2022 VMA’s, which took place in New Jersey on August 30th, are an event that happens once a year, where Music artists gather together & perform their most popular songs. This year's VMAs awards came with a lot of drama, flashbacks, and some horrid outfits.

A lot of people think that the VMA’s are important to musicians; new and upcoming artists. Taylor Swift was the talk of the night not only because of her glittery Oscar de la Renta dress, a far cry from her cardigan sweaters of years past. But people were also surprised by the unexpected announcement of her 10th album, Midnights.

Speaking of best dressed; Lizzo was not on that list. Her black billowy Jean Paul Gaultier gown gave hints of ‘Gain Scented Glad’, as many critics, including Central Students Maddi Wason and Meadow Runge, described her, saying she “looked like she was wearing a garbage bag”.

Popular K-pop group Blackpink performed their new song, ‘Pink Venom’ as the first female K-pop group to perform at the award show in the past 38 years of its existence. The group also won two awards, one for ‘Multiverse Performance’ and one for ‘Best Group.

Absent from the award show was Harry Styles, although he was nominated for eight different awards. This was due to a prior commitment, most likely the two different blockbuster films he is starring in, ‘Don’t Worry Darling’ and ‘My Policeman’

Along with working hard, Yung Gravy, rapper, and Sherri Nicole, influencer and mother of singer/influencer Addison Rae, have been working hard on their relationship. There were a lot of harsh reactions, some calling it “gross”, due to the age difference between the two and even “shameful and embarrassing for Addison Rae”.

To end the night on a good note, rapper Nicki Minaj gave a thoughtful speech on the importance of prioritizing mental health, not only for celebrities but for everyone.

The VMAs are an important event, not only for the artist themselves but also for the viewers, especially the intrigue of the backstage drama between such big stars!
