Student Business Spotlight: Little Macs Bakery

Mariclare O'Gorman

Macarons are one of the most difficult desserts to bake, but sophomore Charlotte Chesser has them mastered! After so many people were impressed with her macarons and requesting more, on February 9, 2022, Charlotte decided to open up her own business, Little Macs Bakery. It's only recently that Charlotte has officially opened up her business. She says, “I have thought about selling macarons since the summer and it wasn’t until October when I really thought about it more seriously.”

Opening up a business is not easy. It takes a lot of time to figure out the logistics of selling and advertising her baked goods. Additionally it took several years for Charlotte to perfect her macaron recipe. “I made macarons in third grade. They were so hideous and terrible. I made them in fourth grade and they were kind of hideous, but they were macarons.” Since Charlotte started baking macarons from such a young age she has been able to try countless recipes and methods such as the French, Italian, and Swiss methods. Eventually Charlotte landed on the Swiss method.

All this hard work has paid off. Whenever Little Macs is restocked, the macarons sell out within the day. Countless Central students and staff want to buy Charlotte’s macarons. Little Macs tries to restock once a month, but Charlotte says that restocking really depends on her schedule. “I just bake whenever I have time and sell whatever macarons I have made.” Being an excellent student, athlete, and the student body president it can make it hard to fit time in to bake, but Charlotte tries to fit baking in whenever she can.

Before each restock Charlotte spends lots of time baking and decorating and also coming up with flavor ideas. “All the flavors of macarons that I use are my own invention. I take inspiration from blogs and other recipes, but none of the macarons I make are an exact copy of anybody else's,” said Charlotte. She sells boxes of six costing $10 or boxes of twelve for $20. If a customer wants more than twelve macarons or a custom flavor for special events, they can contact Charlotte about a custom order. Within a day or two after ordering macarons they will be hand delivered by Charlotte herself. They may be the best macarons you have ever had!

Although Little Macs has only been open for around two months, everybody loves these macarons. Several Central students have ordered from Little Macs and all of them have loved their experience. When asked about her experience ordering from Little Macs, Tamanna Patel said, “I was very happy with the macarons I ordered and I got them very quickly after I ordered. They tasted amazing and came to me super quickly, so I would definitely buy from them again. The flavors I got to choose from were very unique, nothing like the flavors I've seen at other bakeries.” Jacksyn Moore said, “I bought them as a gift for my friend's birthday and I was happy with the product and the service and so was my friend. I would definitely buy again.” When both Central students were asked if they would recommend this product they had very similar responses. Jacksyn Moore said, “Yes I definitely would recommend it to others.” Tamanna Patel said, “I would definitely recommend this bakery to other people. The flavors were amazing, the macrons were beautiful, and even the service was great! Overall this is an amazing bakery that everyone should try.” Based on these reviews it is clear that Little Macs is a well run, organized, and delicious bakery that everyone needs to try!
