Elf

Drew Iddings

Elf is one of the most iconic Christmas movies of the last 20 years. It was released in theatres on Christmas of 2003. The movie is an all-time favorite of mine. And as it is rated PG friends, and family will have a fun time watching during the Holiday season.

The movie follows the story of a human, who was adopted by one of Santa’s elves, named Buddy, played by the iconic Will Farrell, who travels to New York to find his father. Buddy is a funny and likable character who, but at times, can come off as annoying.

The director, Jon Favreau, does a great job interpreting the different characters and why they act the way they do. He is good at putting the right amount of humor into the script while also adding some emotional and sad parts. The movie was written to enlighten people's holiday season and give them a good movie to watch during the Christmas season.

My favorite part of the movie was at the end as it was filled with lots of Christmas spirit. Which was reflected in the seasonal costumes, the best one definitely being that of Buddy. His green and yellow elf costume with an elf hat were indicative of his child-like character as well as his background.

The sets used were well put together and a good addition that made the suspension of belief for the audience last. One of which was the fictional Santa's workshop in the North Pole. What was very intriguing was how the set and toy props worked to create a world where buddy was at least twice the size of the other Elf. After Buddy leaves to find his father in New York the audience sees how the change in the atmosphere affects him. Plotwise it was easy to follow the Elf and his adventure. And while some of his antics might make you curl up from embarrassment they can also be split a gut funny.

I recommend this movie to those looking for a fun Christmas movie to share with their family. Elf includes everything you would be looking for in a good movie and really emphasizes the Christmas spirit. This movie is a 5 out of 5 for me.
