“Oh, I don’t need sleep. I just [go] to my hotel and [have] a cold hotdog and a vodka on the rocks” - Betty White
On December 31st, 2021, actress and comedian Betty White passed away due to natural causes in Brentwood, Los Angeles, just before her 100th birthday. Betty White is best known for her acting in Golden Girls where she played Rose Nylund from 1985 - 1992. She was the first woman to produce a national TV show, the first woman to star in a sitcom (Life with Elizabeth), the first woman to receive an Emmy nomination, and the first woman to ever appear on television.
Betty White was born on January 17th, 1922 in Oak Park, Illinois. She was married a total of three times during her lifetime to Dick Barker (1945-1945), Lane Allen (1947-1949), and her last husband Allen Ludden (1963-1981) who she outlived. White grew up in Los Angeles with both of her parents and no siblings. She graduated from Beverly Hills High School and Horace Mann School.
After White passed, fans took it upon themselves to create a challenge in her honor. It is a social media-driven challenge where people would donate $5 to an animal charity since White was known for her charitable work involving animals and her animal rights advocacy. The challenge did very well and raised $70,000 for the Ottawa Humane Society. White was known for supporting the Morris Animal Foundation and American Humane.
Betty White was an extraordinary person who made the world a better place. She was kind, warm-hearted, thoughtful, a great influence, and a beautiful woman with a pure soul. She will never be forgotten and will be dearly missed.
“It’s your outlook on life that counts. If you take yourself lightly and don’t take yourself too seriously, pretty soon you can find the humor in our everyday lives. And sometimes it can be a lifesaver.” - Betty White
