Central Construction Update - February 22nd

Ronald Baker

Since Central High School is currently under construction and renovation, there is some information that people should know about the new additions that will be available to students starting in fall 2022. Chronicle reporters got a chance to take a tour around some of the new areas of the school and some of the places that are still currently being renovated.

The idea to build and renovate the school started around 4 years ago, and will most likely be finished close to the beginning of August 2022. There are many precautions and safety guidelines that must be checked over and over again to make sure the new renovations will be safe and useful (such as making sure there's no leaks in the roof/pipes, and making sure the water is the right temperature). Principal Williams stated that “...we are finishing up painting all of the classrooms and they should be done in around a month.”

There are going to be a lot of new editions to the school, like a new cafeteria and many more classrooms (such as a welding classroom, theater, wrestling room, a band room/sound room, etc.). Williams said that all this was necessary because “it is a building that was first built in 1934, so it is natural that things like [renovations] need to happen over time.” Williams also mentioned that as Central’s enrollment in Unit 4 is increasing, we would lack the necessary space for these new students without our expansions. He later said that “Central has been falling behind in having a facility that better suits a 21st Century learning environment.”

The new Construction at Central will be done by the start of next school year, and will hopefully lead to fewer packed hallways, making the time to get to classes a lot faster with these new expansions. We can’t wait for our new renovations to help make Central a better learning environment!
