For this senior spotlight, we are featuring Gia Maria Macedo.
Gia is a very accomplished individual. One thing that Gia is proud of is running her own online store. At this store Gia sold second hand clothes (what is trending right now/vintage/2000s type stuff) and it is still active! She had her first pop up shop this year in April and will have another the first week of November. Throughout her 4 years at Central High School, Gia has taken up plenty of extra curricular activities, including Interact club, Pop culture club, Volleyball, and Spanish club. The activity that she has enjoyed the most is Interact club because she’s been able to help local organizations in our community. Gia plans on doing Parkland Pathways to the U of I and then either becoming a Spanish translator or business owner depending on which of her classes she enjoys the most.
In 10 years Gia hopes to be happy and healthy and live somewhere with a beach, because she is happiest there. 3 things that she must do in her lifetime are: try a beignet (like in princess & the frog), learn to speak fluent spanish, and drive a convertible. Gia’s favorite memories from Central was the boys volleyball game. The class she will miss the most is Dual Credit English. Gia likes DC English the most because she has lots of good friends in there and Mrs. Decker is one of the most understanding teachers she has ever had. Also, she enjoys writing papers about subjects that interest her. Which I found really relatable! She also recommends taking African American History to any underclassman.
Three words that she thinks would describe her best are: Funny, Conscientious, and Strong. When Gia graduates, she would like to be remembered as someone who cared about issues at Central and in the community.
I can tell from what I learned about Gia, that she is a very cool person. I would also like to run a thrift store where I can sell second hand clothes that I have hand picked. Funny enough, ever since I was a little girl, I’ve always loved the movie The Princess and the Frog, so I know what she means by wanting to try one of those beignets. Recommending a class is a great way to show leadership, so Gia would be great in a leadership role. I can totally see her helping people and guiding them! Gia definitely has a bright future ahead.
