Shuttle Buses to Centennial Unavailable During 7th Hour

For the past few weeks, announcements were made daily that shuttle buses were unavailable for students going to Centennial during 7th hour. Secretary Koenig explains that the Transportation Department lets the school know if a shuttle will be available or not. Some bus drivers are on their break, so there’s not enough drivers to take students to Centennial. In the case that a shuttle bus is unavailable, as they have been, students are to go to the North Hallway, and use it as a free study hall.

When students hear the announcements, they’re not so surprised. Junior Emma Fahnestock, who takes German II at Centennial, explains that this is something that usually happens. “It’s just kind of how it is”, she says, “it’s annoying, but what’s more annoying is when I’m at Centennial and there’s no bus to take me back”. Emails are also sent out to everyone as well with the announcements. Emma says that emails have been something the school did more frequently, since buses were unavailable many times in one week, but there weren’t so many sent the past few times this occurred.

Teachers at Centennial are aware of this situation as it grew more consistent. Emma talks about her teacher, and how she deals with her Central students not coming to class. “Earlier in the year, she marked us absent, but now she knows about the situation. I assume she’s not marking me absent now”, she says.

Because of the unavailability of shuttle buses, students are missing a lot of their school work. Emma says, “my teacher posts on google classroom sometimes, but not all the time, so I’m not sure what I’m missing.” She also talks about how this could be affecting her learning in the class, and also her grade. “I’m not going to the class as much, so I’m not really learning the material. I’ve missed multiple quizzes, and I have to make them up whenever I get to class. I don’t do as well as I should’ve, and that is affecting my grade.”

This situation was ongoing for a week or two, but now shuttle buses have been made more available to students. Hopefully, students are back on track with their classes, and have been able to make up assignments or tests that they missed.
