Rainbow CD

oil pastels on thick paper

With this art piece, I knew from the beginning that I wanted to do something that had some gray contrast but also some very bright almost neon colors. I deliberated whether to use acrylic paints, chalk pastels, or oil pastels. I want this art piece to display when a CD reflects light and creates rainbows on the CD itself but also so vibrant that it is like super bright colors all around.

During my initial deliberation between using acrylic paint or pastels, I did start at first a painting of a disco ball using acrylic paint. For the final piece for this project though I used thick drawing paper, graphite pencils, a circle stencil, and a variety of colors of oil pastels and blended them a lot!

Before what became my final piece as I mentioned before I did begin by using Acrylic paints to paint a disco ball but then decided that it didn't look good and it wasn't working and that I wanted to try something else. Before creating the disco ball painting I had started by drawing a roll of sushi but did not get far at all with that and decided to try something else. I am happy with my finished piece the “rainbow CD” and it's very close to what I envisioned!
