For this piece, I made a ladybug. The goal of this project was to create an armature animal with paper, and tape that was firm and realistic of the shape of the animal. I thought of doing a ladybug because I use to love this show when I was little called “Ladybug And Cat Noir.” I also just looked up “cute little animals” and one of the first images to pop up was an animated ladybug so I chose that.

I started by making what initially looked like a wrapped burrito which was the body/shell of the ladybug out of paper and painter's tape. Then I made the head part of the ladybug out of paper and painter's tape as well and compacted both the body and the head so both would be as firm as I could make them. I then attached the head and the body together with more painter's tape. I used different colored duct tape to add the color and form the design of the ladybug and I finished by using gage wire for the antennas and feet and wrapped them in duct tape as well to make them thicker and more realistic.

My first idea was to make dice, this idea was inspired by a ring of mine that has dice on it. But then my teacher Mrs. Medsker said that the idea seemed like it would be too simple/easy. I chose to do a ladybug instead for a challenge which definitely turned out to be much harder than the dice would have been. When I had only created the armature part of the project I thought it looked a little more like a pond turtle so I almost changed my mind about the ladybug into doing the turtle. I decided to trust the process though so I added more paper and tape so that I could make the shape appear more like a ladybug I think that the final result is super cool but defiantly looks better in person than it does in these photos.
