Early morning mountain sunrise

9" x 6"

The main idea I had that guided me to create this art piece was the concept of the ink splotch that I was given as being a mistake but I created it into what I saw within it and what its bigger value was, which isn't actually a mistake it just needed to be altered. I created a mountain that contained the ink splotch and a sunrise and ray of pink clouds behind the mountain. Though I could have just done the mountains I thought that adding the background would add some place for your eyes to go beyond just the central object itself.

To create this art piece I went very much out of my comfort zone and really had to use what was accessible to me. I forgot to bring art supplies home that was needed and crucial for me to complete my art piece so I used materials that I could find in my house that I hadn't ever really used before and I actually didn't know I even had. So to create this art piece I used graphite to sketch things out but then I used primarily watercolor pencils to draw and then a wet paint brush to blend the watercolor pencil. This worked pretty well but I was unfortunately also left with parts that didn't really blend out as well as I would have liked.

I originally thought that I was going to do a mountain in the midst of a volcanic eruption, but then I changed my mind to just drawing/painting a regular mountain because I thought it would be more fun to dedicate my time to painting in the skyline and pretty sunset and clouds. Before even starting this art piece I had the idea in my mind that I was going to use oil pastels to make it vibrant and attention seeking but (again) I forgot the pastels at school so I did the best that I could with what I had and spend lots of time to make it the best I could. I think that it turned out a little abstract and cool!
